I agree with what Kecia said, on March 5, 2009 at 3:08 am. As a first time practitioner of yoga I had to think about the asanas as I was doing them. I also worked to build endurance and flexibility during my workouts. If I had accepted who I am and where I was at in my life when we started this class I would not have made it through the first DVD.
Tring both Yoga and Pilates, I have become aware of the perfection that I exhibit when I work on a goal. In contrast I accept where I am, but strive to achive perfection. I think of it as a dual-philosophy of the two.
There is alot of differences between pilates and yoga and one of those differences is in pilates you cant really relax your mind because the whole time you work out you are thinking with your brain to keep up and follow along and in yoga your mind and body in a relaxation mode.
Another difference between pilates and yoga in my own opinion is that working out with pilates you can actually lose weight and working out with yoga you want really lose weight but you will strengthen your muscles.
Because the Yoga and Pilates are somewhat simmular one focus more on the body getting in shape and the other focus on breathing and mind and try to get you to some point where you can understand not to over do it giving you a peice of mind that everyone don’t have a perfect body. I enjoy both of them.
I’m confused, aren’t you using your mind to do the routine in Yoga if you have never did it before?
I interpret that video to say that the difference between yoga and pilates is accepting who you are versus trying to change what you can do.

To me the comparison between Yoga and Pilates would be that Yoga focuses on internal awareness, and Pilates focuses on external awareness.
